    stiff clutch pedal

So I've been more then happy with every aspect of this swap except the very heavy clutch pedal....
I figured out that a 95 540I clutch slave fits in the 530 transmission. The larger bore makes the clutch pedal much softer and way nicer to drive.

Just wanted to pass on the info.

Ummm yeah. Why do you think that is?

The slave has a larger piston diameter than the 530 version, but you sacrifice throw.

I'll be willing to bet that your clutch pedal now engages the clutch virtually off the floorboard. That's not good because you will find that when you need to shift under high rpms, you can't fully disengage the clutch, no matter how hard and quick you press the pedal.

Let me post again..... What clutch flywheel combo are you using? If the stock 265 mm flywheel clutch combo from a stock 540i, then yes, I recommend that. If a lightweight single mass flywheel combo with an m5clutch or the sorts....I do not recommend using the stock 540i slave.

I am using an e39 light weight flywheel and e36 stage one clutch. My engagement is lower but not right off the floor. I have had no issues with high rpm shifts or getting the car in and out of gear at any other speed.

Uuc offers a m5 clutch package that uses a single mass flywheel and stronger pressure plate. They advertise that they include with the kit a bigger slave cylinder that returns the clutch pedal to a completely stock feel. I am not certain but am guessing they are using an e34 540I slave cylinder with their kit. The early e39 540I came with the bigger slave originally then switched to the smaller slave later on in production without switching the clutch or flywheel setup.

Frank, he's using the zf 5 speed, not the 6 speed that you're using. Completely different.

Mark, I'm using the 530i clutch slave cylinder with mine, and the pedal stiffness is very close to my stock m20 e30. The pedal stiffness is more of a function of the pressure plate as far as I know, so your aftermarket clutch may be the issue. What exact clutch are you using? If the 540i slave cylinder is working for you though, then I guess you've solved your problem.

I cheaped out and used a gripforce clutch kit. After the purchase of my UUC flywheel I wasn't in the mood to spend another $500 for a clutch right away. It uses a LUK flywheel. I know the pressure plate is the reason for the stiff pedal but this was a nice and somewhat cheap fix. I am holding onto my 530i slave I originally had installed for when I get around to getting a better clutch setup. I'd really like to go supercharged at some point so I'll need to beef it up by then. But for now this does the trick just fine.

How is it holding up? Any slipping? Is it a solid hub disc, and if so, are you getting any chattering?

After a week of driving it is holding up alright. It doesn't slip on regular driving but second gear burnouts it does slip a little if I rev it and dump the clutch lol.
It's a solid disc so a little chatter when cold but nothing horrible. I guess we will see how long it lasts.....
