    Guibo question

I was installing my drive shaft last night and I noticed that when I tighten the guibo to the driveshaft and then to the trans it starts to deform. It was a flat disk but not it seems stretched as if the drive shaft is too short. Is this normal?

I have a 6 spd trans with a custom driveshaft (same set up as Frank).

Some flexing is ok, if it doesn't vibrate (flexes uniformly), the only drawback is that its lifetime is shorter than normally.

The flexing is due to too short driveshaft.

It flexes about 3-5mm. That is the gap between guibo and the trans flange if I unbolt it from the trans.
I don't think the drive shaft is too short. I loosened the centre slip joint and there is plenty of length in the driveshaft. I also have the centre bearing carrier loose to the body.

Does the driveshaft and trans need to be in phase to engage? Do I need to secure the driveshaft to the trans before I secure to the diff?

Well if the center driveshaft nut is not tight, and the CSB isn't bolted down, the front half should pull itself towards the trans. Something must be stopping it. It doesn't matter how long the driveshaft is. Even if it was only 6" long, if it's not bolted down anywhere else, it will pull tight up against the guibo without flexing the guibo.

Is the front driveshaft bushing seating properly into the output shaft centering pin?

If you remove the guibo and push the driveshaft forward, does it go in any further?

Bushing!!! I had no idea there was suppose to be a bushing in the end of the drive shaft. I'll pull my drive shaft out tonight to check.

          Thanks, JGood.

I wouldn't get too excited. The pin sticks out pretty far, I think flush with the guibo. If the driveshaft bushing wasn't sliding over that pin, you wouldn't even be able to get the driveshaft close enough to the guibo to get a bolt started. But, pull everything apart and make sure there's no obstructions either inside the driveshaft bushing, or around that pin.

Actually, I would just try bolting up the front half of the driveshaft to the trans. Then you know the only variable for the problem is the trans/shaft interface, it eliminates the possibility of anything else getting caught up and preventing the driveshaft from moving while tightening the bolts.
