    Engine rebuilds?

I've been pretty set on buying an m60b40, and i've heard all about the Nikasil/alusil comments. But no matter what, the engines i've been seeing have 160k+ miles. I'd just like a piece of mind and to rebuild it no matter how long every thinks they last.

My question is where do I get parts for a rebuild? I can't find them anywhere, or i'm just looking in the wrong spots.

You're looking in the wrong spots.

Seems that all rebuilds for m60's are non existent. Nobody want's to mess with the blocks since they can't be honed easily. They just buy another running one.

Gasket sets are availible thru blunt or BMA. Reseal kits and timing components as well.

Bore and sleeve your block at VAC. Just find a cheap m6X, around fl for 3 to 400+

What pistons would be used for this?

The largest, highest compression pistons that money can make fit in that block.

Only way to go if you're going to go.

Everything for a rebuild is available at the dealer as well. Any way you slice it the gaskets and timing components are expensive though.

What we really need is a thread on cyl honing info. There are some links here in the V8 section some people have posted, and from memory the gist is you chemical etch the cyl walls and then hone.

But some step-by-step details with specific products to be used would be pretty cool.

With one exception that's alot cheaper than I've seen anywhere for an M6X engine without accessories (compressor, PS, alternator). Shipping is also expensive $150-350 depending on location. A local 540i parts car is probably the best best I would think, if you're lucky enough to find one. You're still most likely picking up a manual transmission separately as well.

All depends on the the bore size and deck height if you plan on going supercharged you would want VAC's minimal recomended bore and sleeve with low compression pistons. They also sell the pistons part of the package.

I give them a quick call or ask JGood here he seems to know his M6X's well.

OP is in Fl, and theirs quite a number of all euro and mostly bmw yards around. Specially around my area, with mountains of bmw m and non m piled together. They obviously dont know what ebay is and sell their parts off cheap and others just collect dust...
