I sold a car (corolla w/ 90k miles) once and less than six months later it bent a rod / spun a bearing or something.

Dude would fire the car up cold and immediately nail the gas backing up a substantial hill in reverse every morning.

Methinks it simply wasn't treated right.

Fan blew up and dented the hood? Why? Back story on this may lead you to the problem he is now dealing with....!?!

About two weeks ago i get a call telling me. That since ive sold it he had the fan blow up and put a dent in the hood. Then last week he called me to tell me the car runs like poo.

I Tell him, i cant diagnose it as im 1000 miles away. That he should prob take it to a mechanic in town. So today i get a call telling me the shop came back with a Bent Rod.

I have an idea why it happened, but before i share what i think. Iwanted to see if what i think is logical or outof space.
Lol, you never told me about the fan. Methinks it probably overheated.

Timing chain tensioner got weak, allowed slack in chain enough so piston met valve, bent valve. After a while of kissing, then the guide/spring pressure trying to straighten the valve out, the valve finally broke off (think bending a paper clip back and forth, then it breaks). This piece wedged between the piston and head and bent the rod, also it destroyed the piston, cylinder, and combustion chamber bouncing around in there.

Basically what happened to this S38.

With the lack of info, and info contrary to driving through a puddle, etc, I propose this extreme scenario.

The Motor Never went threw the Nikisi Recal program.

And the Motor never had the Timing chain tensioner redone,I Stressed Getting that done to the buyer after it was sold.

So My Guess is that the NikIsi finnally caught up with the Block,as i was using 93 in my possession, and the new owner was using 87. Or the Tensioner went.

Doubt it's a nikasil issue, it would be loosing compression and not bending a rod.

If he's got a bent rod, compression will be low, but the leakdown will be fairly normal.

If they didn't do a compression test already, how do they know it was a bent rod?

yes thats what i said. I spoke to the "mechanic" Guy couldnt give me a honest answer, kept changing the subject and had a laugh about his tone.
The shop is full of shit,so the car was pulled out of there and when the compression test is done ill relay the info.

Reguardless of nikasil being an issue, YOU CAN NOT RUN 87 IN AN M60!

It WILL ping like hell and unless you've changed the knock sensors, it will not retard enough to control it. This is 100% his fault. I made the mistake and put 89 in my 95 540i6 and it would not stop sputtering and pinging. I imediately went and got some octane booster and the CEL and pinging went away.

Found Three Bolts in Oil pan today. The threads looked amazing, almost as if they backed them self. Believed to be off of the oil pump.

Those are the only bolts that back out...so what's up with the "bent rod" ?
