    Junkyard M60B40, thoughts? (pics)

Had a local-ish junkyard send me pictures of an m60 they have that they are selling for a tempting price. Engine has ~120 miles and came from a 94 740i.

These are the pictures they sent me, they are fairly poor pictures but still worth getting an opinion here before I make the drive to get it:

    Assume you mean 120 miles...

Was nikasil used as late as '94?

In the second pic it looks like the harness has been cut a bit.

Seems pretty clean. But yeah, it looks like the harness for the ECU has been cut. What's the asking price?

Compression and leak down test are in order first.
I only buy motors that I can see and hear running.

Serial #s on the side of the block. Any mention of them? They will tell you, as I'm sure you know, Nikisil vs Alusil.

I'd probably get them to do a leak down test, and maybe even see if you can't get a boroscope down the spark plug tubes to check it out. That is, all after you verify alusil vs nikisil....although it is kind of a moot point by now. If a nikisil has been running this long, it's probably good.

Having ~120 miles, if true, could mean it was a warranty replacement alusil engine for the campaign against nikisil, so it could be very good.

            Nikasil M60B30 1 725 970 or 1 741 212
            Nikasil M60B40 1 725 963 or 1 742 998
            Alusil M60B30 1 745 871
            Alusil M60B40 1 745 872
Alusil M62B44 1 745 873 NOTE, all US market M62 engines are Alusil.

This is the only way to determine which M60 you have, short of removing a cylinder head.

Looks like 100 other m60b40s from a junk yard... you can't tell anything from pictures.
