Will the F body shifter not bolt onto the GTO trans, putting it in the same position? Because it looks like it would.

I hear long shift knobs can cure 'stiff' shifts. Just finished making this a few hours ago:
Measured at 8.75". Used some scrap purpleheart wood that a friend had laying around. Still have to drill the hole a bit deeper - hitting my hands on it while turning in 1st, 2nd and kinda in 3rd. I will say though - shifting is a blast now. Super easy to tell which gear you're in and to shift you only have to move your hand a few inches from the steering wheel.

As long as the hole you drilled is properly sized there shouldn't be a problem with the wood cracking. If you do end up making something out of wood (which I recommend, because wood is baller) do yourself a favor and get a wood that isn't super dense. Took me about 6 hours of filing to get a 2"x2" down to that shape. Wood was so dense/stringy that trying to use a carver/blade would throw it off and that was with my press set at the lowest speed.
