Anybody consider these hydroboost systems. They aren't cheap, but they are less fugly than the current hydroboost options.

This NEW Hydro-Boost, hydraulically powered brake booster, can be custom built to any vehllce that you don't see listed, give us your specs and we can build it to suit. It comes in standard black but chrome and powder coat options are available. It uses New Bosch brake components, we are contracted directly with Bosch and can guarantee authenticity, and no one else can. The Hydro-Boost is smaller then the 7 and 8-inch boosters and generates 1200 to 2000psi to the calipers. Many masters can be fitted to it, from the 15/16-inch to 1 5/8-inch bore sizes. It is powered by pressure from the power steering pump and requires No Vacuum. Most performance modifications made to engines rob vacuum, leaving a fast car with no brakes. The advantages are that no "small bore" master is required, firewall and valve cover clearance is increase, and frame mounted Hydro-Boosts are the same width as a master cylinder giving additional exhaust pipe clearance. The Hydro-Boost can be fitted anywhere a vacuum booster will fit. It can use stainless braided hoses or rubber type. Brackets are available for most applications, we engineer new ones all the time, you can call us to prototype an application for anything you do not see posted, and we have a set of 2 bolt and 4 bolt universal mounts that will fit nearly anything.

The price on that one seems pretty reasonable actually. The only thing I'd be concerned about is the unit contacting the valve covers or the PS lines coming too close to the headers. Granted, I think we'd have enough room, but it is a $400 gamble.

Cx racing might have a kit out in the new year also. Im going to slowly gather up my parts and see what comes out in the future for mounting.

From what I've seen of the hydroboost being mocked on my car. It isn't that simple. There isn't enough space right out of the hole so you have to offset. Then there's the issue of angles and what not. It looks like a HUGE pita.

Those are MUCH bulkier than the BMW units being retrofitted. Those are GM style units that were originally used in diesel pickups and full size vans, with only a few car applications.

You stand a MUCH better chance of being able to fit the comparatively compact BMW units in the engine bay with a V8.

Also, what's fugly about current hydroboost options?

Will a z3 steering rack clear 1 7/8 headers? Or do you have to go strictly e36 for ls swaps?

Any E36 style rack will work. The main part is the angle of the steering joint off of the rack. The E30 one points in a bit more than any of the E36 type ones. I'm 90% sure a Z3 rack will work.

Put in a Z3 or E36 rack -- the hose connections are to the outboard side of the valve body on the rack, this will give you more clearance for headers. E30 rack hose connections are right under the headers, toward the inboard side of the valve body.

Simple update. The Fbody shifter lines up the best. GTO will sit too far back
