Motor and trans pulled from the E39. I spent a ton of time removing and labeling wires so I can properly reassemble without headache.

    And separated.

    I still need to:
Pull the E30 driveshaft and get the front end of the E39 one welded on.
Pull the rest of the harness out of the E39 and remove the unnecessary wires.
    Clean the motor
    Clean the E30 bay
Put the new motor mounts on
    Weld the trans mount
    Mount the brake booster
Wire, wire, wire, wire and wire some more.
And probably a lot of other things I am forgetting.
Damn man Looks like am following really close on timeline on the same build with same 318is (mine is a vert but still).

Im also using the same mounts... and garagistic mounts...exhaust manifold (which is totally worth it) and will be ordering their driveshaft too at 600$ for new already balanced and ready is worth it too..anyways am just happy they are there helping the bmw v8 e30 crowd that have no support in parts

few questions for you with the battery tray(mine being a vert I need it for the battery) did you have to cut a bit of the tray?

Also the fuel line did you label which one was the return? with the m42 engine kind of hard to tell...

I haven't had to cut anything yet.

I am more worried about fitment/driveshaft/brakes right now I haven't tackled fuel. I will follow up when I do.

I really need to know if anyone has used E34 540i mounts with the garagtastic mounts.

I have two pairs here and just can't figure out how they fit. Can anyone link me to someone who has used these so I can try to find out how they modified the mounts to work?

I have the same E34 540 mounts and If I remember correctly Jeremy "monkeymadness" he also wondered about how to point them he got them to work

But I am not at the stage yet to test fit the engine..

Now I am getting really confused. I grinded off the bump and set the mounts so they were as far apart as possible (Last time they were too narrow). I found one of the mounts wasn't dropping and saw the oil pan was sitting on the steering rack. I thought this wasn't supposed to happen with the subframe spacers?

Unless I am doing something wrong it looks like Ill have to notch it.

try placing your mounts the "narrow" way agian with the nuts barely threaded so you have room to wiggle the bolts into the holes then when both sides are on drop the engine and tighten them

I have the mounts working, but the motor does drop all the way down before hitting the steering rack.

It looks like I am going to have to raise it 3mm, so I will be getting a piece of 1/2" flat aluminum and making two spacers, one that sits below the mount and one that sits on top.

I am beginning to regret going the 'already done' route and wish I would have just done all the work myself.

So I got the motor mounted with Revshift's E34 mounts and a home made 1/2" spacer. To the naked eye the motor does not look like it is sitting straight. It is hard to capture on a camera.

Can someone explain this to me though?

                OEM mounts:

                Untitled

                Revshift

The bottoms are aligned the same in these pictures (larger diameter bolt on the inside). The option on the rev shift allows the motor to be placed forward or backwards depending on which side you place the mounts on, but are symmetrical. The OEM ones it would change left/right angle on which the motor faces. The fact alone that the two are different really worries me. Does anyone have any idea which is correct?

I thought the gargastic engine mounts used the diesel rubber mounts? Since they are taller.

It also says you can use E34 540i mounts as well.

I bit the bullet and ordered some diesel mounts, but they have to ship from Europe.

It looks like this will be taking a back seat until spring.

No new pictures, but I did get the new mounts from Europe and she is finally sitting properly.

For those of you that went the Garagistic way did you use the holes that sat the motor closer to the front or the back?

I've got a new spark of motivation and now will be working on the driveshaft, exhaust, transmission mount, and wiring.

My motivation is linked to the weather. When it is 0 out I have 0 motivation.

I am trying to push through though and be in a good place for when spring rolls around.

Hey! Check my thread did a test fit with the garagistic and E34 540 mounts.. works great for me. I mounted them just like Jeremy did (monkeymadness)

Lets get these cars ready for summer and enjoy it to the fullest.

I ended up getting the diesel mounts and it is sitting perfectly.

Definitely sparked some inspiration for me since it opened the door for 50 more things I can do now. I thought I was done for the winter but I'm going to keep working so I can drive this thing in the spring not just work on it.
