There's really nothing special or application specific to a "guibo delete kit". You just use two Flaming River u-joints and a 3/4" DD shaft. DD shafts usually come in 12" lengths, you just cut to fit for your application. It's just a solid chunk of steel, it doesn't care where you cut it.

    Here's mine:

Of course, Flaming River offers other shaft options with the BMW 17mm 54 tooth splined joints, such as a 36 tooth splined round shaft, a solid round shaft, or a mirrored 17mm-54 spline shaft. They even have a 1" DD shaft, so you can use one of those on one end, a 3/4" DD shaft on the other, a short 3/4" DD shaft, and a short 1" DD shaft with a 3/4" DD hollow center, for a collapsible shaft like Vorshlag (used to?) offer.

FWIW, I have a 90 and it had an airbag in it. I just went to a local guy that had a non-airbag column, swapped the columns and then made my new steering shaft out of two E46 steering shafts welded together. While I was in there I also got rid of the BMW factory hardware under the dash (the strip nuts or whatever they are) and welded M6 nuts on the back side of the column, so I can simply unbolt and remove the column with 5 bolts. With this setup, I can also adjust the column angle. Total column swap time took about 30-40 minutes, doing my modification.

Note: I highly doubt the E46 u-joints would work with the sikky swap (too large), but I used Garret's kit so I just made the exhaust fit after. I do plan on doing custom long tubes however at some point.

I remember reading there being a problem using the flaming river u joints on airbag cars? Different shaft lengths or something?

Edit: Nvm, I see what you did there. Then I guess I dont remember what I read the issue was with airbag cars... doesnt seem like there should be one?

Actually you might be correct. I do recall a spline difference in the column... airbag cars may be coarse spline, which would be different then the FR joints. I don't know, I've never messed with an airbag column.

Soooo what really are my options here? Just swapping out the column for a non-airbag column?

I'm assuming if the flaming river u-joints wont work because of the splines, then the sikky ones wont work either.

Weld the two together? I think the spline count is the same. Sorry I REALLY need to dig up the pictures I took when I did this.

"Adjust column angle" means that you can loosen bolts, shim, slide, etc. and retigten, and *NOT* that you have an adjustable column, right?

The E30 driving position is a little uncomfortable for me, and I'd like to be able to lower the wheel and angle it toward me a bit.

:( I can't find the pictures anywhere. Sorry man. I think the airbag ones have only a single U joint instead of two like the non airbags. I don't recall.

I did the 2 e46 steering shafts In an airbag car and I can tell you that the shaft side on an airbag car definitely has different splines than the steering rack.

I made it so that my steering shaft is collapsible so I can easily remove my headers takes about 5 min to remove. Only real issue is that on an airbag car the only support the shaft has is a flimsy seal In the firewall so I need to figure out something to tighten up the slop a little bit.
