Sikky LS basic swap kit overview

I get a bunch of questions so I figured I'd put something out there answering the frequent questions I get.

First is "What comes in the kit". So here is the breakdown if you get the basic kit with no frills.

First up is the oil pan setup. Higher capacity and trap doored oil pan with pickup and dip stick tube. Of course a gasket and hardware.

Here's the oil filter relocation stuff. Even comes with a filter.

    Of course motor/trans mounts.

At the bottom of this picture is the drive shaft and the adapter plate to help remove the drive shaft without having to drop the subframe.

    Finally, headers/gaskets, and associated vbands.

Pricing isn't my thing to email sales@sikky.com if you want a quote. I still don't think it's on their website yet. Sikky also partners with wiring specialties for the harness but thankfully, that's agnostic of the kit. Hit them up for your harness for any LS swap really.

I'm still waiting on pictures for the sikky hydroboost brake setup that should be out in the next week or two. It uses a ford E350 hydroboost (IIRC) and the factory brake master. The kit will come with a modified brake pedal to utilize the different offset of the unit to the firewall. I'm not sure if it's a core charge or not.

    FAQ:
    How's engine bay clearance?
There's enough space behind the heads that I could fit my hand but it's snug.

Can I use my factory steering components?
Nah. Gotta go E36 steering rack for header clearance and have to get rid of the steering guibo. Thankfully, Sikky makes a delete kit for that.

    Any chassis mods necessary?
The T56 is a bit of a tight fit. Some clearancing was necessary but not as much as the 240 requires. You also might want to think about opening up the drive tunnel at the shifter to get better access.

    How complete is this kit?
You'll need a brake booster solution, steering solution, and nick knacks like a different cooling setup/exhaust. There's also VATs and stuff like that. But 90% of the swap is done with this kit.

Will this oil pan solve oil starvation issues with the LS1?
That's iffy. It's definitely much better and I drift my car with only that. You can't really beat a dry sump system if you want to be 100% sure.

How awesome is an LS E30?
It's more fun than my S52 turbo that made 100whp more. Better gas mileage too.

    Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

What exactly is the steering guibo delete kit? Dont you just pull the guibo out and then bolt everything back up with some new hardware? Is the kit just a few bolts, nuts, and washers?

That setup doesn't work for the V8 swap though. The steering shaft has to literally go through the headers. The delete kit has two compact U joints and a thin bar that links the two together.

Oh snap. I literally had zero idea. I guess I gotta call sikky tomorrow.

The kit currently only works for non airbag FYI.

I have yet to pull the steering apart yet to swap in my e36 rack so I dont know what everything looks like in there....

What defines an airbag car? A car that still has an airbag steering wheel? Or is the actual steering shaft different on an airbag car? Haven't seen it yet so I wouldnt know. Im assuming the shaft on an airbag car is different, so even if you swapped steering wheels then you have to treat it as an airbag car?

I think anything 91 is air bag. Anything before isn't. that's about what I've noticed from the 18 E30s I've owned lol. The shaft is physically longer on the air bag car for some reason but the damn thing does telescope somehow. I'm so confused by it really. Probably could just telescope the bitch in or... cut it? lol No no... don't do that...

What about just swapping shafts to a non-airbag shaft?

*shrugs* maybe? Seems like more work than it's worth.

Well if the guibo delete kit only works on non-airbag cars, and I have an airbag car.... it seems like im kinda out of options lol.

Fwiw, my 1990 had airbags in it.

You can always make a delete yourself. The sikky kit one will work but you have to cut down the shaft they supply. This is not endorsed by them obviously. I only had a quick chance to test the steering guibo delete kit and didn't have time to figure out all the logistics. That's just the conclusion I came to. I have pictures of it somewhere. I'll post up when I'm home.
