What temp sensor to use on M60

I can't seem to get my Temp gauge to work even after I tried 3 different brand new sensors. I know my connection is correct since I can ground the connector and it immediately goes to hot on the cluster.
Do I have to use a sensor from the original motor? I figured even if the M60 motor temp sensor is not correct I still should still get some kind of reading.

All the temp sensor is doing is measuring the temperature of the coolant, and displaying that temperature on the gauge. Coolant is coolant, it doesn't care what engine it's in. There is no reason to use any other sensor then what originally came in the e30 from the factory.

Do a continuity test from the temp sensor plug to the corresponding x20 pin, and also verify that the x20 pin is going to the correct c101 pin.

Well I got continuity cause I can jump the sensor plug and make cluster needle go to hot.
so then it's the sensor that's not compatible with the e30.

Use a sensor that has the range for the E30 gauge.

i went and ordered a 1985 e30 temp sending sensor. I noticed its a one prong connector so I will make my own connector and just tuck in the M60 harness wires.

            Hi!

Isn't there a 2 pin temp sensor avalible for m20 engines too? I'm currently also looking for a E30 original cluster temp sensor :)

I ordered mine from pelican and it's been replaced by another part number. It's also back ordered for the past two weeks.
