why dont i see more small block swaps?

My brother has a chevy 350 just sitting in my barn and im trying to find some threads on people that have done this swap before. I came across a hand full of people on other forums but it dosnt seem to popular to swap these motors into e30s.

Anyone on here have information on this swap? I think it would be a fun motor to put in a e30

Probably because you can find LS blocks pretty cheap nowadays and thats a well documented swap with plenty of swap kit options.

For Chevy, the LS motors are just so much better. Can the old 350 make power, absolutely. Would it be fun, heck yeah.

If you have most of the stuff necessary, do it. If you only have an old engine, that's free, but still needs a rebuild, and everything else to fit it, spend a few more dollars for the LS.

Heavy, and you actually need to know how to build a motor of you want it powerful. Look at every motor swap that's been done and then ask them what's done to the motor. Nothing.

what everyone else said. plus it's a big step back in technology. there's a reason every production car today is fuel injected.

then again, you could do a fuel injection setup on the 350. but then you basically just have a shitty LS1 for about the same price.

Yeah, it's because everyone who does these ridiculously easy v8 swaps actually know nothing about engine building and that makes them just a bunch of idiots. (sarcasm face)

I disagree with this statement... a lot of the guys I've talked to on this site that have done v8 swaps do not have stock engines. Myself included.

And even with having to build the engine, I would still prefer to build a 5.3 or 4.8 LS over a 350.

I have a small block in mine. Ford flavor.

Distributor in the back of the engine on a SBC would be a big pain.

The standard SBC is a heavy motor for an e30 so aluminum heads at a minimum would be most peoples goal, and that's not a stock feature on most SBCs until the lt1s came around. That and the distributor location against the firewall is also an obstacle to tackle. That being said they are still about the cheapest engines you could possibly work on with the biggest aftermarket imaginable so an all aluminum full built SBC e30 is not a bad idea

Because for all the work that you have to do to install a V8, saving a thousand bucks (or less) to put in a piece of crap SBC instead of an LS1 is dumb.

I mean, unless you want more weight, less power, finicky tuning, more difficulty passing emissions, and worse fuel economy (granted, this last point is minor, but it's annoying to spend the price delta at the pump for something worse).

yea everything said so far makes a lot of sense. I was tossing the idea around in my head because of the motor my brother has (and the fact that when some one asks what under the hood I get to say its a 350) im sure it would be a lot of fun but with the amount of time and money invested an LS would probably be a lot more bang for the buck. also not much documentation on the swap would be kind of a pain.

I was just surprised I haven't seen a lot more considering iv seen just about everything that has wheels on it with at least one 350 swap.

Of course all the threads you read have people doing work to engines they're swapping in. Don't feed the trolls.
