    LS1 SWAP KIT, SIKKY Vs GARRETVS

    Been lurking around here for a while and i was always under the impression that the garretvs kit was the "pioneer" kit for the ls swap.
    Then i see the sikky swap kit and i'm wondering which ones better? and why?

    I will preface this with I do not have experience with either of these kits but given I was just in your predicament a few months ago I will give my opinion. Personally if you are in the car scene where you live sourcing someone to build you mounts a driveshaft and then modifying a gto oil pan will make you come out way better/cheaper than buying one of these kits. I'm at least $1k cheaper than sikky doing it this way. If this isn't the case or you don't want to take the time to find someone then get the car and take the time to have them build you mounts the Sikky kit is honestly the way to go. Not only is it very good looking you have to look at what all the kits come with for the price. The Sikky kit comes with a oil pan driveshaft and mounts. The Garrett kit comes with mounts a second diff mount (an argument can be made that this is not necessary) and the brake linkage (brakes are arguably the most complicated part of this build). The Sikky kit can be bought from enjuka racing for around $1,700, with the coupon they will email you after setting up your account, and garretts kit is $1,250. What you have to consider is the cost for the oil pan and driveshaft. The gto oil pan you can get for $200 then it's going to cost you at least $100 to have modified. The driveshaft will be anywhere from $350-400 to have made so at that point you are $200 more than the sikky kit. If you like the brake setup garrett runs then it might be the kit for you but personally to save the headache of the large items namely the driveshaft and oil pan the sikky kit is a no brainer for an off the shelf product.

        Thanks for taking the time out to explain the pros and cons of both kits.The cost of the sikky kit isn't that prohibitive( i thinks its worth it). I emailed the guys at garret and have not heard back yet..probably busy, But all you mentioned, i now have a few more questions.
        so please bare with me;

        waffleswaffleswaffles this mean all ls swaps will in-fact need/require that gto oil pan for proper fitment? ( in which case i pretty much cant do without it?)

        As far as the d/shaft goes, that would be necessary if i go with a T56 correct?
        cos then if i do go auto(seriously considering it) then that would affect length of d/shaft which might render the one that comes with the kit useless,right?

        I just wanna make sure i get this right.

          I don't have any direct experience with either of these kits, though I did purchase Garrett's swap manual to use as a reference while building my car and have no issues with the way he engineered anything. The Sikky stuff does look pretty sweet and is a little more complete than Garrett's kit, minus the braking part, which is something to seriously consider.

          And if you go auto instead of T56, the Sikky driveshaft will not work. The 4L60E and T56 are not the same length.

            Oh, and a buddy of mine has been running Garrett's kit for probably a year and a half now. He drifts the car regularly and beats the living shit out of it. Garrett's parts are stout and haven't let him down.

              im sure garrett had instructions correct?
              any harness suggestions.
              Yeah i really like the hydro boost from garrett. seams easier to tackle than redrilling /relocating brake pedal.

                Wiring will be the same regardless of the kit. I'm biased as I have a sikky kit. Everything just fits and works. I don't have a second ear for my diff and I beat the crap out of it drifting. No issues so far. The sikky kit is more complete for your money and it's a true business instead setup specifically for swap kits.

                          shiboujin, what harness are you/ did you use please elaborate....also hows your brake set-up with the sikky kit?

                              The harness is a one off so I won't be much help there. The brake setup is the full sikky hydroboost. I had to header wrap my headers but it works fine. Pretty easy to install and no modifications to the body required. Bolt in and go.
