Question about M6x DME/ECU auto vs manual

My donor car is OBDII and I can't decide if I want to send off that DME for an EWS delete (~$400) or swap that for an OBDI M6x DME.

Can you use a DME from an automatic M6x with a manual trans or do you have to find a DME from a manual car?

I had an automatic e32 DME in my old swapped car and it worked perfectly. The autos have a separate DME to control them.

As far as I know there are no tuners who can flash out the EWS on the OBDII BMW V8s.
