So I want it to be a possible daily but also maybe a little auto-x on a few weekends a year...

But most of all I'm shooting for an awesome e30 to be back the road and enjoy the crap out of it!

Okay so I’m doing a ton of research on this swap but to me the brakes are not the biggest issue, it’s always the wiring to me... any thoughts about how to make this any easier? I’ve got an OBD(I’m assuming) harness from the e34 and an auto dme but I will definitely be running a manual... additionally which tranny is capable of working on this swap? ZF320? T56? T5? 420g? 260g? V8 tranny only or can an e36 or e30 tranny work?

Thanks for any and all input..

Which DME do you have 484 or 404? I can help you with the chip for auto or manual, I've been collecting E34 540i performance and O.E. stock chips for years.

If you're also interested in aftermarket standalone efi I can help with that too as I'm running Speeduino on my M60

You don't mention what yr / mdl E30 you have but if I was going to change anything on my car I would have done the booster relocation. vs manual brake setup. You have to delete or relocate the ABS unit
Current thread there are a couple of kits that could get you started

Or check out J GOODS build thread

My engine/ trans is also a M60B44 with DUDMD chip. 6spd trans
There's quite a bit of info here on R3v. Also maybe buy frank maculusco's (spl) booklet fo reference

Thanks for those links, I bought Frank's guide and have been reading it like a monkey doing a math problem...but he doesn't seem to cover any actual costs for things or where to gather most of the parts aside from junk yards or garagistic. I like garagistic's stuff and I am limited on space and tools so as much of this that can be plug and play the better... I like the idea of DUDMD because he only an hour from me, but I need to figure out this trans issue. So there is a yard near me with an e39 530i but its an auto (anything that I can pull from it??) also a e36 328i with a 5spd ( is this the correct ZF trans??) How do I learn/find out that info? Thanks again to everyone!

                  Look for either an E34 530i 5spd or E34/E39 540i 6spd. E39 530i is a I6 car so it won't do you any good.

                    Jpod,

Where I'm at is looking good for spare e34 v8 cars atleast in manuals...so i'm looking at a e36 323is manual ($200 at a junkyard) or an e36 328i manual with driveshaft and diff for about $500 (CL), any thoughts?

                      Inline 6 transmissions won't work.

So why does Frank's guide list them as an option? Ugh this is getting frustrating way too early in the process lol

Thanks, guys for the help...just worried about collecting the correct parts and not wasting time or money, if one can help it

Maybe ones with removable bellhousings? I'm not sure which ones would even have that though. I know the ZF 5 speed I have doesn't have that.

                            that might make more sense, he lists 320Z from e34 530i 5spd and 310/320 ZF from e36 m3/328 or e46 328/330, e39 528/530, z3 2.8/3.0/3.2

The ZF I have is from an 01 330ci, the bolt pattern on it is for the inline 6. Maybe there's an adapter plate? The V8 bolt pattern is pretty different from the inline 6. The 530i 320z is available with the V8 bellhousing.
