Hey looking for some advice I have a 1988 E30 325 convertible. When I do a cold start the engine runs great. most of the time it starts fine when it's warm (after a short drive less than 45 min) After driving the car for about an hour or two the engine will lurch or start to misfire and lose some power. At this point the check engine light will come on and the car will regain power and run, although the temperature will climb just a bit (still within operating range). This works for a while but after another period of time it will lurch and misfire and start to lose power again. If I allow the car enough time to cool off the check engine light will reset and then it will go through the same process. I've replaced the o2 sensor but no change or improvement. I also tried disconnecting the o2 sensor to see if the check engine light would come on when disconnected but it did not. This leaves me wondering if the ECM computer is working. I've tried to do the stomp test to see a code for the check engine light but because when the car is shut down it often resets the check engine light I haven't been able to get a code to display for me. I have also insulated the fuel hose to make sure it's not vapor lock, that did not make any difference. The car runs great for normal drives of less than an hour but I don't trust it for a long drive. Just looking for some direction for diagnosing it or trying to figure out where to go from here.
Thanks in advance!
