e-brake stuck, help

    e-brake stuck, help

    My an 89 325i has been sitting for about a month. I went to move it the other day and the ebrake is stuck. I am able to get the ebrake handle down but the pads are locked up.

    Is there anyway of getting them "unstuck" with out taking off the calipers and rotors?

    BFG, take the wheels off and give the hub a little tap tap taparoo! You might try using a torch to warm up the area as well.

        put it in reverse and slip the clutch a little, that should jar it loose.

          If the pads are stuck that bad, its unlikely you'd be able to get the rotors off anyway. Try the clutch drop thing, but if that doesn't work, spraying some penetrating oil in there may be your best bet. You would need to take the rotors off and clean all of the oil out though, and maybe get new pads depending on how soaked they are. otherwise your ebrake won't have much holding power.

              this happens on my dunebuggy often, i just get a few gus and try and rollit back and forth from the wheels while on the ground.

              This always frees it up

                If you pulled the handle too hard then it could have pulled the cable out of the dust shield. Just something to look into...

                  i can actually move/drive the car but can hear/feel the shoes grinding.

                    Try a hard reverse, sometimes you hear a click or the sound of something clicking back into place when you do that.

                    Oh btw did the hammer trick do anything but fuck up your hub?

                      i have not had a chance to look at it yet. weather has been miserable here. if anything i would hit it with a rubber malet.

                        the pad spreader components might also be rusted or seized into the open position, this happened to me


                        I just removed the rotor after alot of wiggling
                        and basted them with grease

                            Also they might be just totally apart all together in the hub and little bits of them peaking out the backing plate rubbing against the rotor.
