Long story short the keyed section of the ignition switch was heavily worn and I've gone about replacing the complete steering lock assembly by purchasing the following part brand new 32-32-1-156-458
Pictured is the damage to my steering lock assembly, this started as a 'trick' (pushing the key up as I turned) I had to do to start the car and eventually wore away enough to the point where the ignition would turn on but no start.

Reassembly appears rather straight forward but I'm struggling with the spring and circlip. Beyond coming up with a tool to compress the spring while I install the circlip is there a glaringly obvious method that I'm missing here when it comes to reassembling the steering shaft?
