Bending a selector rod with no vice?

I recently installed a z3 shifter than rubs in 2nd… as expected. I am trying to figure out if there is any way for me to fix this by bending the selector rod without a vice. Has any been successful in this? Should I just remove the harmonic balancer? Could I shave down the selector rod rather than bending it? Thank you!

You should buy a vice. It's not like they are prohibitively expensive.

Alternatively, you could jam the selector rod in some sort of immovable hole? In between jersey barriers or something?
Then get a piece of pipe on the end to add leverage and bend away.

Yes you should remove the balancer off the driveshaft if you still have it, it's probably worn out by now and will only be causing issues. The selector rod is hollow, so you wouldn't be able to shave it down much before you broke through.

Buy a map gas torch from a hardware store, have someone heat the center of the selector rod while you hold the 2 ends with some large channel locks. Once the rod glows red, start bending.
