Fuel Leak Near Tank

Hi,
I have a fuel leak from the rear of the car. It started after engine start and when I looked under the car it seemed to be dripping from the bottom of the tank and the rear sub frame behind the tank. The tank was almost empty anyway but by the time I drove it back inside the garage and put it on chassis stands it had stopped. Before it got dark I drained the tank (8 litres left) and will have a look at it when I get time.
Does anyone have any ideas on where to start or known issues? I have replaced all fuel lines forward of the fuel filter but I don’t think I did any on top of of the tank.

Check the overflow tank and related hoses above the right rear tire. Remove the tire, remove the plastic shield and there is the overflow tank and hoses related to the evaporator system. Take a look at REALOEM in the fuel supply system for more detail.

Look under the car and see if the filler hose is wet near the tank inlet. I've had this happen on two cars recently. Both times it was just the tapered filler hose. Both were original 35-40 year old hoses. They developed cracks near the tank inlet. I used OE BMW hose but there is also aftermarket hose available.

I’ve checked the filler hose and it’s ok but will change it anyway as it’s old. Will check the overflow tank and hoses soon.

If you smell fuel inside the car, pull the rear seat and check the hose connections at the pump carrier as well.
