I'm a newb around here, but i'll throw in my 2 cents if that's ok:

When reverse is engaged, there are 3 gears making contact, but only 2 in the forward gears. It would be loud and whiny, but not quite as bad as reverse. That technicality aside, does anyone actually make straight cut dog engagement gears for bmw trannies?

in reverse there are 5 gears sets in contact..... (11 different gears)
all forward gears but 4th (1-1 ratio)
constant mesh means that all the gears are in constant mesh reguardless of shifter position.... besides reverse

diego.... if it was just a shift fork that broke i see no reason to replace with straight cut gears..... helical cut gears a quiet and almost as strong, and they will last longer.

just get stronger shift forks or slow down your shifting
