    broke something racing lol

ok, my guess is i busted a piston ring, but want more opinions..
i was racing.. and i kinda shifted into 3rd, when i really ment to shift into 5th, yeh, going 110, that did not fly so well, basically, i over revved the engine (atleast i think thats what caused this)

ANYWAY, when i slowed down and got off an exit ramp, i noticed something did not feel/sound right.

a buddy and I stopped at a gas station and poped the hood.
and very noticable CLICKING sound came from beneath the valve cover.
there are NO LEAKS (fluid) and there is a significant loss of power.
have I bent a piston? or busted a ring? or what? i'm getting my wisdom teeth taken out tomorrow morning, so will not get around to opening it up with my mechanic friend until saturday. anyway thanks for suggestions.

    $hift

    probably broke a rocker arm if it's a 2.5

remove the valve cover. You broke at least 1 rocker arm. If you broke a rocker arm from mechanical overrev you may or MAY NOT have bent a valve..

Either way, you will have to remove the head to change out the rocker arm. Chances are some valves and valve guides now need attention too.

If you bent a valve no big deal... a new valve is like $12.

If you do your own labor (doesn't sound like it) it was a foolish, but inexpensive mistake.

If you have a mechanic do your labor at $75+ an hour, you just totaled your car.

Just don't make the same mistake with the E36 M3 engine; you'll be out big money. I'd say stick to a cheap motor. Maybe get some custom pistons made with extreme valve cut-outs so that it would take a monumental downshift for piston/valve collision. 8)

Yea, cause that's what guys that can't handle a stock M20 need, another 100 HP.

                      Brilliant.

OK guys, no need to flame the ignorant n00b that money shifted his m20 (something very few people manage on a GeTreg 260) He knows now what he must do.
