Whats with the annoying squeek until the car warms up?

    whats this come from?

i asked a couple of other e30 owners and they all say that have it too..

when i start up my car in the morning, it squeeks, in like, 3/4 second intervals, until the engine warms up fairly well.. during hte summer this was only a few minutes, now that its colder its taking more like 30 minutes of constant driving for it to go away.. what is it? its kind of emberassing.

I'm talking like your AC belt, alternator belt, etc...

They start to squeak when the get old or loose. Check them all, and if they haven't been replaced recently, replace them. I'm willing to bet they are pretty old.

Nah, changing all those belts is easy. You're looking at $30-40 to replace the 3 of them (alternator, AC, power steering). Get them all from BMA for under $30.

Just make sure you turn the car off first!

mine squeak, but who fucking cares.. they've been replaced twice since I've had the car, too. I figure it just makes our cars all the more stealthy, everyone will think it's a beater ;)

check the adjustment parts for wear, the teeth on the adjustment bolts are pretty weak and shred if you try to overtighten them. My power steering adjuster is fucked, that's probably why my belts squeak. maybe someday I'll actually get around to replacing it.
