Should run it through a relay.

May I ask why you want manual control? You're going to kick yourself when you keep killing the battery because you forget to turn it off.

that way if i drive the car really hard i can turn it on my self and not wait for it to get hot then turn on.

So you want to turn the fan on early so you can beat on a cold motor? I don't understand...

If you want to have the fan turn on sooner, get a thermal switch that activates at a lower temperature.

You sure sound like a moron, so have fun dealing with the dead battery when you keep leaving the switch on.

if you are "driving hard" your engine isn't going to get hot enough to warrant the fan coming on in the first place. the only time it would need to come on would be idling in heavy traffic.

There's a better way. For a standard 80C thermostat, install an 82-83C thermo switch in the radiator. Feed the relay coil with switched power and use the thermo switch and cabin switch to ground the relay coil. That way the fan will come on if either switch operates.

When mounting the fan, don't use the simple "through the radiator" mounts. They will will in time wear a hole through one of the radiator fin tubes. I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to figure out how I know that (and it was a new radiator!).
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

what car came with an 82-83 thermoswitch? I only know of the 80/90 and 90/99.

Could you just splice it into the auxilliary fan circuit? I know the AC button will turn the aux fan on whether or no the thermo switch is activated. This may have been already covered, though.
