    Failed Calif SMOG

Just returned from smogging the car.....and it didn't pass. Here are the figures from the printout.....

    TEST - 15MPH

    HC (ppm) - max: 108, ave: 31, meas: 82
    CO (%) - max: 0.71, ave: 0.10, meas: 0.50
    NO (ppm) - max: 767, ave: 237, meas: 909 <---- failed
    %CO2 - meas: 14.4
    %O2 - meas: 0.6

    TEST - 25MPH

    HC (ppm) - max: 83, ave: 20, meas: 48
    CO (%) - max: 0.58, ave: 0.09, meas: 0.51
NO (ppm) - max: 706, ave: 199, meas: 698 <---- getting close to fail
    %CO2 - meas: 14.4
    %O2 - meas: 0.4

Last night I did an oil/filter change since that will usually help in improving the numbers during the test. With high nox at 15mph, what do you think could be the problem? The test tech says that perhaps the cat needs replacing....but I'm not sure if I can take that as sound advice since he had to ask me (prior to the test) if my car was front-wheel drive :loco:

Any ideas on what I should look into first? I can get a re-test free within 30 days. And for the record, the car is currently running a stock chip and 91 octane fuel.

    #1 Get in car
    #2 Goto autoparts store
#3 Buy CRC Guarantee To Pass Chemical
#4 Drive shit out of car for couple hours
#5 Drive to smog place and pass

I have never had a car NOT pass with that stuff. I have done LOTS of smogging of cars too. :)

Can this "CRC" stuff be purchased at AutoZone or Kragen perhaps? If not, where?

I purchased this at Kragen in Elk Grove. go on the Kragen website and do a search on CRC fuel additive. It goes for $7.00. I'm waiting for the tank to run dry before I take mine in for smog again(it didn't pass barely also)

There's a Kragen not far from me, so I paid them a visit and picked up a can of this "wonderjuice." I will strictly adhere to the directions and hope it works. I'm pretty confident it should pass on the second test with the CRC in the tank. The numbers from the initial test were all quite good except for a couple...and those weren't really that bad.

            Keeping my fingers crossed :)

Jon: Are you chipped? I had a JC chip in mine and failed miserably. Put in the stock chip and it passed easily.

sucks. mine failed with carbon monoxide at 25 mph. my gf's cousin owns a smog shop out in roseville and he tinkered with my shit until it passed. her family is so awesome. good luck with the wonderjuice.

Would you guys wait until you didn't pass before using this stuff? Or use it anyway 'just in case'

I need to get mine done in the next month.

                      Thanks!!

To me it makes more sense to use this stuff once you've learned your car failed smog. Best thing to do is check around with TEST ONLY smog shops and ask them what kind of policy they have for a re-test if your car fails the first time. The place I took my car to (a test only shop) offers a free re-test within 30 days after failing the initial test. So for me its a no-brainer. Just run this juice in the tank and go back for another test at no cost.

look into buying a ticket to fly to another state, and live there, cuz california just sucks with their emission laws. Too many fucking people live here
