How long has it been since you've replaced:
    -Distributer Cap
    -Rotor
    -Ignition Wires
    -Spark Plugs

Do what Ken said. Also, look at fuel filter.

      How does it drive?

If those don't work, there's a good chance its the Air Flow Meter. The board that the arm sweeps across as the flap opens wears out after a while. Mine had a definite stumble around that RPM until I got a remanufactured one.

Also chek the vacuum advance. I'd do that first since it doesn't cost anything to check.

Learned your lesson after the distributer cap indicent
I did the same thing with mine. I went to replace my cap and rotor last summer and both were about destroyed. Replacing them made a world of difference.
