    Burning oil?

I have an 86 325es and it seems to be burning oil, or maybe worse. About a day after I wash it, there are black specks on the rear of the car near the exhaust. I had the head rebuilt about 1K miles ago and all of the seals should be good. I am using 15W50 Mobil 1 and it is still happening. The car is losing <1 qt./3,000 miles. What is happening here, and what could be the problem?

that isnt much oil being burned.... less than a quart every 3000..... the black soot is most likly from running too rich

What kind of mileage is on the bottom end?

A freshly rebuilt, better sealing head causes more pressure to build up, and may be causing oil to be forced past the rings. Go have a compression check/leakdown check done on your bottom end if you haven't already.

My last ix would put out a little black on the back when I floored the shit out of it. Are you laying into it more that you rebuild the top?

            I also have a chip...

I have a conforti chip, set for 91 octane and I run 93, could this be making it run rich?

                Well...

Not most of the time, but I had it rebuilt not long after I got the car, so I can't really say.

Higher octane doesn't make a car run rich, no.
