If you do do have an owner's manual get one from ebay or BMW. Regardless of whether you get an owner's manual, get a Bentley if you plan on doing work to the car yourself (which it seems you are).
Like the other members have posted, look at your pads. If they are worn, the pads sit closer together and it trips the sensor. Trace the wires for tears outside and inside the car, etc.
When you get new pads, get the sensors as well ($15). If you just got the car, I'd get new rotors also...new OEM are about $40-60 each.
