    Car wont start 1988 325is

    1988 325is Automatic:
Last night, pulling into my dorm parking lot, i backed up, put the car in drive, and started to pull into a parking space, where the car started to studder, and rpms would raise, then die, raise, and now is dead. The car cranks over, but does not run. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for, other than fuel relays.

less than 10k miles on them.... same with plugs and wires. When i try to crank over my car, there usually would be a smell of gas, but now there is none. So im thinking it has something to do with fuel.

Check fuse for fuel system and the fuel pressure regulator. How about the fuel pump itself?

Have you checked your fuel pump relay?

We have found the problem of my car. How to fix the problem, i have no idea. The fuel pump was not turning on while in the car... but when connected to a seperate battery, it would have a wrrrr sound... which how its supposed to sound in the tank.. Any ideas on this one? Thanks in Advance. o btw, all fuel relays and fuses were replaced.

If the pump would run through a direct battery connection then something is amiss with the original power connection to your pump. I guess you need to inspect the lead from the pump and figure out why its not working. Loose connection elsewhere in the loom? Severed from vibration or heat source? I'm just speculating here.

check for volatge at the power supply for the fuel pump with key on.... if no power trace back as far as you can..... means you are going to have to remove interior parts

Start checking your ground connections; if you've got +12V then you've got to be missing the ground(s) or else it would run.

if you have 12v at the relay connection and the pump runs when you jump it, its your fuel pump relay?...
