    door weatherstripping

The weatherstripping surrounding my doors seems to be maybe an inch or so too short all around. It works decent, except the upper right corner of the weatherstripping doesn't fit flush with the cutout for the door as it should. As a result, I always get a little bit of wind noise inside the door. Any ideas on what might help get rid of the noise short of replacing the weatherstripping? Thanks

Are you talking about the rubber/furry one that does in the door jam? If so you have the wrong one!

The early e30 ones are longer then the later e30 ones.

Don't ask me why or how, thats just how it is.

          Hmm...

All I know is that I took one from a 90 325iS at the junk yard, and put it on my 87 325iS. It was too short and left a gap like you talk about. I went back and traded it for one from a 85 325e and it fit perfectly.

          Freaking weird.

Yeah, its pretty annoying. I constantly have to jam it into the corner to try and get a better fit, but it never quiets the noise 100%

my drivers side strip on my '88 m3 leaves a big gap at the upper 90* bend. and i get wind noise along the leading 45* edge. i figured it's because my weatherstripping shrank or something. pass side is fine.

i've tried finding that part in the ETK but have failed.

I'm not so sure that BMW makes the door seals anymore anyway. There are usually some on eBay. That's where I got mine.

I have the exact same problem on my '91 318is, except it's on the passenger side. It's as if the fuzzy strip has shrunk :?

I have the same problem on the driver's side. In the upper corner where it does the 90 degree bend I can see outside just barely. Surprisingly I dont think I get much noise from it, or maybe I just dont notice it. I took off that piece and put it back on to see if I could get it to fit better, but I couldnt. Any ballpark estimate on how much those cost?

anyone know of a source for new seals? This always annoyed me about my car, but I'm pretty sure they've just shrunk over the years. I wish my car was in a garage :(

Go to www.mcmaster.com and look under "Fastening and Sealing" and then "Seals." They have tons of seal and I bet there is something that would work there.
