    SMT5 vs SMT6

can't seem to find any info on SMT5 but more on SMT6..

Reason I asked is that I'll be getting a used unit of SMT5. so maybe some of u might know something about SMT5....

1 question I would like to know is whether turbo application is ok with the SMT5 especailly with extra injectors...

May upgrade to SMT 6 later but will try the SMT5 first and then replace the AFM with a MAF...
have been planning the MAF conversion for the longest but was waiting for good deal to come along... looks like time is almost ripe...

SMT-7 is coming out soon, I'd imagine the SMT-5 is way out to date. Pony up and at least get the 6 if you are going to spend all the time to do a MAF conversion.

i believe the SMT7 is already out, but the only reason to upgrade to it from the SMT6 is if theh SMT6 doesn't support your car fully. I'm sure gunni will get in here and set us straight.

IIRC... the SMT5 should be good enough for a MAF conversion... its only missing a few features from the SMT6 that aren't needed for MAF conversion.

SMT7 is out but selling along side with SMT6 as SMT7 is made to cater for engines which can use the SMT6 (i think one of those engines is the rotary engines.)

As for SMT5, unless I go the forced induction route, SMT5 is more than sufficiently...
I call alwsy offload it if I decide to upgrade to SMT6 later..

bugger the MAF, get a MAP sensor hooked up to that SMT-6.

Its not too hard to do.

I would imagine that its a bit more tuning work than a MAF... but probably not too bad. Honestly though, if you're looking to completely eliminate intake restriction, look into an alpha/n system. You probably won't be able to notice a huge diff between the MAF and MAP...

now, if you're going FI... MAP sensor all the way.

                  Reviving this thread of mine....

Anyway, I've bought an used unit of the following BOSCH MAF with 6 pins and it matched the AFM socket for the M42....

Anyone use this MAF before for MAF conversion.

                  The part no is :
                  0 230 213 011

I haven't. Find a wiring diagram for the car and get a pinout. Chances are, theres a ground, a power, and a signal at the least.

There are 6 pins on this MAF....

And any idea where to find the diagram?

goto a local auto retailer and look for a manual for that car. see if they have the pinouts you can write down on paper.

                        get a copy of mitchell

theres some site online that has wiring diagrams... i can't remember the URL. someone here might chime in w/ the answer.
