Check your owners manual. It has a reference chart of which oil weight to use under the conditions you're having.
Page 61 to be exact. And I checked anyways, you'd be fine with a 15W50 or 15W40 oil.Reminiscing... -
you'll be fine with 15W40.Originally posted by robbieostermanEven if we get really mild winters over here (rarely snowing), you think it'd be wise to use a thick oil?My mountains are better than yours.Comment

Yeah, he's saying that would it be okay to use a thick oil in the winter if the winters aren't too bad.Originally posted by DanGillan5w-30 is very thin, not thickOriginally posted by robbieostermanEven if we get really mild winters over here (rarely snowing), you think it'd be wise to use a thick oil?The BMW 318 is back. Im trying BMW Synthetic 5W-30 this winter, mostly becuase I get it for dirt cheap. Before with the Mobil 1 15W-50, the lifters would rattle right after startup on cold mornings, they dont anymore...James Peacock

I run 5w30 year round in my m44, works very well.
15w50 is way too thick for that tiny little motor, I noticed a good 3 mpg change in mileage by switching to the 5w30.

Dude Castrol Syntec 5w30 owns. Now I am trying to decide if I want to run 10-50 for the summer (was doing it to stave off oil consumption in the high mileage M20).Im now E30less.

I just changed mine to 15W-50 again. I guess I'll go for a lighter weight next time around. I just did it at the time because it's the only thing I could find 5 bottles for that was synth. The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.Comment
