    question for convertible owners

i just replaced my top. just above the driver's head, there's a rod (about gauge of a coat hanger) that goes across the top.

what does it do? on the original top, it was broken, so i bought similar sized rod and can bend it to do the job, but i don't actually know what it does.

there are some loops on the tension straps...does it loop around those? if so, why? what's the point of those things?

you know how you have to fold out those 2 loops of fabric before you put the top down? i think it is for making them fold out evenly across the center, but im not really sure.

so is it supposed to just go through the loops, or hold tight?

          Interesting
i bought my vert in decemeber, with a 2 year old top on it
obviously that piece was left out, as I dont have it,
at least in my 91 anyway
