How low does the window supposed to go?

I recently purchased my first E30 and to my shock and disbelief and mispleasure, the window won't go down far enough to be flush with the door on the front doors (87 325is).

I'm hoping that it's just my car has a motor/window arms problem and wont let it roll all the way down. It's one of the best feelings in the world to have your elbow out the window as you're cruising on the summer day, every other car I've ever owned had the window go down to sit flush, please tell me it's just my car and all the other E30's out there let the window go down flush?

Bmw thinks they can cure cancer with their electronics and engineering. After seeing Traction Controlled "limited slip" in new models, and the fact that M series motors use two oil pumps I became a believer as well.

Looks like I'll have to rip both doors apart and see exactly what's going on with them.

I refuse to believe that they wouldn't go down all the way on normal basis.

I have an 87 325is. Neither of mine go all the way down.

open the door cards, adjust the glass. simple. if that doesnt work, take a pick. glass that doesnt roll all the way up, or doesnt roll all the way down.

of the three e30s I've owned, and the dozens I've drive/been in, not one of them had windows that would roll all the way down

mine will not roll all the way down. its just to that point where it is an annoying little bump in my arm if i try to put it out the window. but in my friend's old 85 the windows went down flush.

Mine stops just short maybe an 1/8 inch, probably less.

Not too annoying if I had a little more body cushion I probably wouldn't even notice but on my E34 they went all the way down then I must have hit a huge bump because while they were down there something came off track and now they are a little screwy. So maybe its a good thing cause I try to avoid opening anything up in this car for fear its going to to rattle when I put it back together.

Hate to say it, but pics?

Seems to be a common issue with many E30s. If some have a window that sit flush, it would lead me to believe that OE spec is flush, and any window that doesn't go flush is out of spec due to miles/wear.

Anybody else?

Yea, mine, my brother's e28, my friends sam's and others that ive driven/rode in they have not gone down all the way.

really? so the plates where the window gets tightened to the hardware isnt adjustable? i beg to differ, as i have done it on a older e30 i had.

it too was an eta, a 85 to be exact.

I have a 87 eta and they stop about 1/8 of a inch away from the bottom? the gap seems to be the same on both sides

my 91 goes all the way down, later models uses a different mechanism to raise and lower the windows. so that could be by some dont roll all the way down:shrugs:
