    rocker shaft removal

    what do ya'll use to remove the rockershafts for replacement? like what do u use to drive them out, without damaging them?

    I use a socket with the same outside diameter as the shafts and some long extensions, then hammer on the extension(i've got one mangled one to hammer on)
    85 325e 2.7 ITB'd stroker

      The rocker shafts should not be difficult to slide out, although mine were due to a warp in the head. I got mine out with a brass drift (always good to use a softer material than what you are hammering on), intending to replace the end caps. I then had the head annealed and pulled straight again.

              I've always used a wooden dowel and a rubber mallet. Cleaning the built up gunk on the shafts helps out a lot.
              Don't forget the good things Hitler did.
