Bolt won't go in all the way

I finally got the 3.73 LSD in my car. However, one of the four top mounting bolts won't screw in all the way. Unfortuantely, its one of the very top bolts. I tried using a different bolt (from the other tranny). I made sure it wasn't stripped, but it still got stuck when only partially bolted in the diff (about half way). I am thinking the threading is messed up in the diff. Any ideas?

drop the diff and find out, there's no way around it, if the threading is messed up in the diff, tap a new thread, if the bolt is messed up, get a new bolt.

this is common, getting all the bolts lined up is not easy. you basically have to get them all in (but not tight) and then tighten them down. support the diff with a jack to make it easier to shift around. also, use some locktite on the bolts, they tend to come loose.

If that doesn't work chase the offending threads with a tap, preferably used, and try again.
