The rest of the world, for the most part, except N. America received the E30 320i (M20B20).

The only positive point of the M20B20 is that it revs higher than the M20B25. Well it's peak hp is at 6000rpm compared to 5800rpm of the B25.

I'd agree with the other folks.....if you want to mod an engine, pick up an M20B25 from a junkyard and stroke it during a rebuild. You'll have a new'ish engine with appx 190 crank hp from a 2.7L stroker.

The funny thing about the M20B20 is the horrendous gas mileage for such small displacement.........I swear, but never measured, I get the same gas mileage out of my stroker compared to my M20B20

Interesting note about the mileage Chris.

Michael, and I never said the 318is was slow. I was simply using the 318is's weight (~2550) as a reference. Remember that base model cars from overseas are quite a bit lighter than the heavily optioned cars we have in the states. It is feasible for even a 6cylinder car to be in the 2500's.

How high is the valvetrain good for? 7500rpm? A large bore, short stroke engine with a radical cam and a different rear end gear could be fun ;)

dont mind me, just rehashing an old thread

so an m20b25 drops right into a 320i?

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.
