I currently own a 91 318is with 177,000 miles. I'm wondering if someone could tell me of a reputable shop on the East Coast to perform an M3 engine swap. I have a WRX so I want the BMW to be all motor. One turbo is enough I live in PA. I was approached about doing an SR20 Nissan swap but I want to keep it all motor and maybe supercharge it later. My friend keeps harrassing me with his Evo RS. Any info is appreciated. Thank you.

E30 M3 Swap Question

S14 engine swaps are most common in 2002's but aren't that popular mainly because of the cost of the engine itself. There are other alternatives that have more power and are easier to find such as the 6 cylinder S50/S52 engines."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj
85 323i M TECH 1 S52 - ALPINEWEISS/SCHWARZE
88 M3 - LACHSSILBER/SCHWARZE
89 M3 - ALPINEWEISS II/M TECH CLOTH-ALCANTARA
91 M TECHNIC CABRIO TURBO - MACAOBLAU/M TECH CLOTH-LEATHER

My fault for not stating that I was interested in the 6 cylinder engine. I see E30's with them in the magazines. I dont want to wait til the last minute to do it. My concern is the installation of the engine, transmission, differential, drive shaft, etc. How much fabrication and a knowledgable shop is a big thing for me.

busman95 what are you willing to spend on a s14? i got a complete s14 swapped out for a s50 its just sitting runs perfect everything included. id rather swap a m50 into a 318 just for the cost reason s14 range from 2000 to infinently lol m50 is only about 500 complete. or you could just turbo a m20 and a evo is no problem to beat i know i had a m20 turbo raced both a sti and evo there fastttt off the line thats it just like every japanese car after 110 the motor doesnt seem to wanna go anymore

I'm willing to spend a few grand. I dont want it to get crazy. Something reliable. I need it to be a daily driver but smoke a few knuckleheads on occasion. I've always like German vehicles but the cost is crazy. I figured I could just hook up my 318is, get decent power, and keep liability insurance...lol I've never driven the 4 cylinder M3 but I know the 6 has got to be much better. I just want power. I got my wife 2 cars and a house. I dont think she can do much complaining. lol

well e30 m3 s14 is not a street friendly car in my opinion need to be revved up to go im use to driving 6 cylinder car but once your over 4500 rpm the car gos. its amazing what this engine can and does do to a new 4 cylinder with more hp. IE "RSX" 210hp is a joke and somehow they say the rsx pulls more g's then a e30 m3 stock(not possilble) but man the rsx is a quick grocery getter.

Busman,
Motorsport Connections in Winston-Salem, NC swapped an S14 into Bob Kennington's 318is a few years ago. Their website is www.motorsport-connections.com. The swap is beautiful, the car is still in the 2500's and has plenty of go, more than enough to wipe out the 325i's.

I used to have a supercharged Integra GSR. Sold it to my sis and picked up a WRX. But for some reason I like driving the 318is more. Can't explain it. I've always been a fan of 4 cylinder engines and I know about having to rev an engine. I used to rev my GSR to 8000rpm. Loved it. It sucks cuz u have to constantly keep it in the powerband. Torqueless vehicles.
