    Price of a basic Rebuild

Hey guys what would be the price of a basic rebuild for a 325i m20 engine if I did all the work myself. And what do M20 engines run for now days?
I know this is a hard question, but I just want ballpark answers.

I'm going to spend about $500 threw BAv auto for the following
      Head gasket set
      Bottom end set
      Main and rod Bearings
      Piston rings
      Head bolts
      Watter pump
      Timing belt
This won't included Valve guides and any other head items that will need replaced I droped my 325i head off at a machine shop 2 weeks ago and the intake guides wher good but I have to replace all 6 of the exhuast guides. So I'd say if your doing a full rebuild and not needing to replace rockers, pistons and major engine parts but just gaskets and what not probally around $600

Edit yep missed a Zero If i could get all that for $50 I'd rebuild all three of my e30's

1100 that seems like alot since I just bought a whole car for that price. Ok so we are looking at around 600 bucks then. Not to bad. Since my Euro spec hasnt been sold yet i am planning on renewing everything in it and making it brand new. Who knows I might go crazy and go turbo :) But as of now its a basic rebuild and expect to see me around more often. I wanted to get out of e30s but have spent to much money on this car and cant get it back so I mine as well spend more.

My 325i engine has very low mileage! So what if you got a car for $1100, my friend got a 318i for $600. What is your point?

ELY!!! BEFORE YOU BUY THAT STUFF FROM BAV AUTO!

i got a whole ton of parts there, since they're pretty local to me, but i saved a boatload of money by price matching... all they need is a link to a website or something that sells the part... as long as it's the same brand, you're golden

All my point was is that the price seemed a bit on the high side.

What is really wrong with your motor?

I mean, I understand you want to rebuild it to make it fresh but, if I was you, I would just find low mileage motor, and drop it in, or perhaps find cheap M50 and swap it, if you're planning to turbo it, you'll get more power out of M50 rather than M20, only thing with M20s is that, they are very reliable and can last for long time, from my experience.

For total rebuild, you'll be looking around 500-700, maybe even more in long run.

Why would I want to go from a built 2.7 l to a plain 2.5?
