Frozen locks?

Whenever it drops below freezing, my locks freeze. all 3 of them. they're frozen right now, and I can't get in my car

how should I unfreeze them? lock de-icer doesn't do anything. also, how can I prevent this in the future?

Here's an el-cheap-o idea. First, make sure you have more than one copy of the key to your car. If you have that, then proceed. Take said key and use a lighter to heat it up. Insert and let it set for a moment, allowing the heat to radiate. Repeat as necessary. It has worked for me before after one very chilly day of skiing up at Lake Tahoe.

As for what you can do in the future to prevent it? I don't know. Where I live I usually don't see weather like that. Someone from blizzard country please chime in on this one.

I tried that lock defroster shit, but the tip broke off in my lock. Now im double fucked.

Best idea. When I have frosted windows and I'm too lazy to scrape it off, I get some hot water and pour it on. It does the trick. But I guess if the temp is really really low, it would have the negative effect.

if the lock mechanism is physically frozen, that wouldn't help. :(

I didn't know. I do this every winter - I guess its not cold enough in Vancouver. I just use some hot water from the tap throw it on, and Im ready to drive.
