fitting the ix engine will be a pain :)

The oil dip stick goes in a nother place in the engine block so you will have to skip
the dip stick og drill a new hole in your block and fill up the old hole.
You will need a 325i oilpump and oilpan
If i remember correctly the motormountsholes are different so you will have to mix that - i'm not 100% on this though.

If you want to use the iX 5 speed it uses the bigger guibo like the e36 325i and m3
so you will need a custom spacer or a custom drive shaft to use it.

      jibby :D

no way you can mount up an ix 5 speed.. there's a transfer case on the end of it. the ix also has a totally different driveshaft (it's quite a bit shorter) and there is no center bearing. and the mounts are not the same, either.

i was planning on using my current tranny, it will work righT??

and why can;t i use the current dipstick in the engine as it is?
won;t it still fit? it'll will just be harder to reach?

other then oil pan and oil pump, that should be only things i need ot switch right?

OH CRAP>. i just looked on eap4parts.com, and the IX motor mounts are different then the IS motor mounts, is this going to cause me a headache??? are the motor moutns bolted in, or welded? can i take the ones out of the "IX" at the salvage yard???

is this WHOLE engine thing going to be a headache? should i just try to find another IS engine? only things to consider, is i need an engine ASAP!!! plus, this engine only has 75k on it.....
tomorrow morning is when i HAVE to make my final desicion.. grrr why can;t it just be easy lol

what exactly will i have to do if motor mounts do not fit?

sry to post 2 times next to each other... but did someone say something about the dipstick being in another place, therfore i will have to plug a hol,e and drill a new one??!?!

WHY? i'm taking old oil pan off.. and putting normal e30 oil pan on...
i know the dipstick on the "IX" is right behind the trottle body (little ot the side)
and the dipstick on the "is" is more in front..

why does this make a difference? aren;t both dipsticks going to the same place??!
then why would i need to drill a new hole?

and are motor mounts that big a deal? i mean, i get the IX motor mounts, take the old ones out of chassis, put new ones in (or drill then put them in?) and then set togo righT?

motor connects to motormounts, motormounts connect to subframe, the subrame on the IX is different, i dont know any of the details, but the way it sounds is that this will be a very big pain in the ass. good luck

                thanks for the encouraging words....
are the subframes the little legs that are weldin in there???

dang it.. this means, i will have to cut subframes out, then weld new ones in? this will take to long to do,, and ocst more, if this is the case, i guess i will cal the guy tomorrow and tell him NOT to pull the engine, for i am no longer interested, i have found an engine like mine for a little cheaper but it has like 160k miles on it.. i guess i can rebuild when it gets to really higher mileage, grr...

so ya'll think i should just let this engine go?

no offence, but you clearly dont have the technical base to pull off the swap.

                    I did a 90 motor into my 87...
there is a LOT of different parts, some that havent even been mentioned here.

Keep looking for a regular 325i motor.

i don;t take offense lol i know, i was going to have a mechanic (not bmw) to help me pull it off..

i am just going to have the engine itself, not the afm, or alternator,

i was going to salvage as many things from my IS as possible...

                      what could i be missing?
computer and tranny should hook up.. only problem i see is the motor mounts, and if they are seriously going to cause me a BIG problem, then i guess i should keep looking for an I engine,, it;s just, finding an I engine with like under 150k is hard, i guess i shouldn;t have gotten my hopes up on this engine..

dude at salvage yard like guarantees me that it will work.
i wil have to change a few things, such as the motor mounts off my IS engine, and stick them on this engine, but other then that, my only probs will be the oil pan (duh) and the dipstick

does the 1990 IX engine have 214 HP?

on a i the sump on the oil pan is up front on the engine in ix the sump is in the back
like on the e36. that is why the dipstick won't work.

I sold a iX engine once and the guy put the engine in a 320i and he ran into alot of
problems, if I was doing this swap I would deffinetly find a i engine and forget the
                                whole iX stuff :)

About the iX gearbox it is just the same as a i gearbox if you take the transfarecase
of (its only four bolts if I remeber correctly) but it uses the big guibo so you will
have problems with the driveshaft you could use a e30 m3 shaft.... I use a iX box on my m50 swap and I had to mix my driveshaft but everything works ;)
