Fred do you really dislike your car? Did you ever make it to the dyno? I know i remember seeing the shitty results, like 140hp but something was wrong, if i remember correctly.....

Modded eta engine with JimC chip?

Josh, we covered this. Screw trying to make power with etas. If you want an eta, don't waste funds modding it. Get an i to start with, and leave it at that. Maybe get a chip, but why start with the low-revving, low hp engine and try to work up? If you want an eta, drive an eta, but don't try to build up a stroker one or two pieces at a time.
If you do the dual valve springs, upgrade the cam.......as I think Fred had an old magazine article somewhere in which the eta was given a longer cam, dual springs, and a chip and shown a nice boost.
But still, I'd say it'd be better not to try to play catch-up, and just START with the I. Hell, you swapped to the m20b25 last time. Learn any lesson of what you should start with? And if M50 is a plan, don't waste $ on a M20 engine. Any $ you think of modding the engine with, SAVE for the M50!

Robert, you make a very good point. The point I'm trying to make is that I CAN'T pass this car up! It's an 86 325eS, It's damn near exactly the car I want! I'll be able to do many things to my tastes, such as have a carbon fiber hood and not worry about leaving the weave pattern exposed, because black cars look AWESOME with CF hoods. Also, since it has a tan interior, I plan to upgrade the seats to either black Recaro SRD's or Corbeau GTS-II, then I'll go with black door handles and map pockets, and somewhat recreate the 2-tone interior I had in my last car. It's also got the smaller early model tail lights, and has an iS front airdam. It has an M-Tech I rear wing, Magnaflow exhaust, a Z3 1.9 ssk, and has been meticulously maintained by an avid E30 enthusiast for almost it's whole life. The paint and the interior are near perfect. For the price this car has come up at, I WILL NOT pass it up.
Now would everyone PLEASE stop trying to talk me out of buying an eta. I got the answers I wanted in this thread, so let it go.
This is the last time I'm telling everyone this. I'm not speed junkie. I like a decent amount of power, however my focus with the car will be somewhat with power, but mostly on the handling. I wrecked my last car because I wasn't able to handle the power. I'm going to go to driving school with this car if and when I get it, and learn how to control it, then we'll see about a stroker or an M/S50 swap. In the meantime, I'm going to mod the engine the way I want to, and all I'm asking from this community is help with the questions I have, when I have them.

If you can't pass it up, don't. Don't wait around or piss and moan, just do it.
" iS front airdam. it has an M-Tech I rear wing" sound good and nice touches.
just don't worry about engine at all. just drive. and think about not touching the engine, that's my recommendation. and you could sell the shit you have to mod the 2.7L, and save the $ you would have spent to do a M50 swap rather than 2.8i.

If you want to waste $ on modding an engine and only getting marginal results, the eta motor is a good choice. ;) You could bury lots of $ in there and not make much progress. But of course, you said you don't want to make that much power anyway.......
And if you want the info, and not the advice......grow up. Why do you expect people to let you make silly decisions?
I had to respond to that second edit. I'm a nice guy to you, but LOOK at what you are saying. You want to mod the engine, but not make that much power, and cannot handle that much more, so you throwing money at an engine for no reason but to be cool??

wait, I dont get it, you wrecked your last car because of too much power, and now your planning on basically recreating that much power except with more torque?
Why the fuck even bother with the motor? get a chip and exhaust and call it a day. If you're gonna claim to want to learn to drive, do it. Dont front like you want to be a 'skills' guy while in reality try to be a closet 'power' guy.BEERTECH

Rob, I'm taking the car to driving school stock. Once I learn how to drive it, then I will mod it for more power.
rwh, Try reading the FUCKING thread.
I have the valve springs already. I can get a 325i intake manifold and throttle body for abut $150. The chip will be about $250. So accounting for a few other little things, that's around $500 I will be spending to make an engine that will be AS fast as a stock 325i motor, with more torque. Including the cost of the car, that's less than every single 325iS I've gone to look at, that wasn't in nearly as good of condition as this car is, and I don't want anything less than an iS/eS trim level. The amount of money I'm spending to mod this engine is tons less than it would cost to buy an M20B25 and swap it in. I don't want anything much faster than a 325i. When I decide to stroke the motor, I will have to buy very few things to do it. Even then, I won't be going past 200 hp, which is about as high as I want to go.

Don't get panties in a twist or start cap locking curse words, both of us are being reasonable. We just see a conflict in your words.

IMO, a chipped M50 would be much better use of funds than a stroker.
