    battery light/problem.NEED HELP!

    hi,

i;ve been at school for a while and my car has been sitting. when i got back for thanksgiving, my battery was completely drained and i had to buy a battery charger the charge it back up, everything seemed fine after that.

i left it for another three weeks and now i am home on break. when i came to my car, it started ok, but the battery light was on. i figured it would be OK and i just kept on driving. i parked my car at the mall and when i came back it wouldn't start. i got a jump and came home and stuck the charger on it.

heres the weird part. my cd player (before and after the charge) restarts after about 3 seconds and keeps on doing it for the entire time the cd player is on, so its impossible to listen to anything. i checked the battery light and it is still on. I put the charger on again and i noticed that the meter on the charger would read CHARGED, but then after 3 seconds fall down to 6v, and it continues to do that every 3 seconds, the same interval as the cd player.

also, i have a BMW battery and it has a little round piece of clear plastic that if green means its charged, if black means its innsufficiently charged, and if yellow means battery replacement. its black, which dosen't really make sense because i charged it.

if it helps to know it has been about 5-10 deg. here lately.

    please help.

    thanks, marco.

Either an alternator or a completely toast battery.

im going to take my battery to autozone or something to get it tested and charged, im hoping its a toasted batter, because i sure as hell don't want to replace the alternator. just incase it is the alternator, how much would another one be for a 325ix? should i go used or new?

also, do you think a belt on the alternator could have snapped?

Well, you could visually inspect the belt to see if it snapped, but chances are no, because the same belt drives the cooling system of your car... I believe...

Anyways, you could probably find an alternator cheap off a wrecked car or something. That's what I did.
