Charlie is exactly right. Last I spoke to an H&R Rep, I was told that the Cup Kit had similar spring rates to the H&R sport springs, but were tuned specifically to be more comfortable for street use (they're somewhere between OE sport and Sport). The Cup Kit is not recommended for any competition environments while H&R sport springs can make do for occasional beginner track use.Originally posted by Charlie
Jordan, no offense man, but that's some serious misinformation there. H&R sports are actually running a higher rate than the cup kit.
It's a good, streetable setup.

However, as many have noticed, the H&R sport springs do not offer an "aggressive look". That is why H&R developed the cup kit, for those that wanted a "sportier" ride over stock, but a very aggressive stance.
Me thinks Jordo doesn't know what a stiff suspension is.. :nice:
The Eibach Pro Kit is a nice compromise between looks and performance. There was a batch made some years ago that had sagging problems, but I have not heard about the issue in quite some time.

First off. Fuck you guys. Go ahead and give me a reason to clean house of a bunch of post whores... try me..
Secondly. I have driven 2 different H&R Sport e30's.
One was driven back to back with my e30.
My e30 had worlds less roll, and was alot stiffer then the Sports equiped car.

Maybe there were other parts of the suspension that you have better quality parts for than the other E30's that you drove with sports on, making it feel stiffer? I don't even know if that's possible, but just an idea.Originally posted by JordanFirst off. Fuck you guys. Go ahead and give me a reason to clean house of a bunch of post whores... try me..

i really don't know about aftermarket suspension setups, so I won't be arguing that one is better than the other, but jordan's car is also a lot lighter than most e30's. that could have made a difference, too, unless he did this comparison before all those mods.Originally posted by FrustratedMunkyMaybe there were other parts of the suspension that you have better quality parts for than the other E30's that you drove with sports on, making it feel stiffer? You can't compare back to back like that. Shocks, bushings, and even tires will completely play into body roll and "feeling stiff". Besides, it is very hard to tell how much roll a car has from inside the vehicle.Originally posted by JordanFirst off. Fuck you guys. How is it lighter? Those big wheels? The heavy vaders? The full interior? So far, I've had on mycar, in this order, the following setups:
1. OE Springs/KYB Gas-a-justs/14" wheels/BS RE950s
2. H&R OE Sport Springs/KYBs/14" wheels/950s
3. H&R OE Sports/Boge Turbos/14", then 15" wheels/w/Dunlop SP 5000s
4. H&R CupKit/15" wheels/ Dunlops
5. Eibach ProKit/Koni SA/Eibach Sways/15" wheels/ Dunlops
The above setups were driven for at least 3 months over all sorts of roads and conditions. I like a firm, but quiet ride. When small bumps like tarstrips make the dash quiver and rattle, it's too stiff for me!
I took notes along the way and I'd have to say that for looks AND comfort, the CupKit was #1. The damping, IMO, is rather soft compared to a Koni set at full-firm. HOWEVER, I couldn't live with the amount of lowering and the (for my tastes) excessive negative camber.
The current setup with Eibachs and Konis is best for me. Not too low, but tires nicely hunkered in the wells. No camber correction necessary. The sways made a big difference, balancing the car's slight tendency to understeer at the limit.
On Eibach's website they state that going with bigger wheels and tires with lose you more ride comfort than a ProKit. Also, your choice of damper(shock absorber) will have more effect than spring rates normally seen on roadgoing vehicles.
Most folks pair H&R Sports with a fairly aggressive shock like the Bilstein Sports. H&R will tell you that the CupKit is an "Engineered Solution". By that they mean designed to work as well as possible having given up 2+ inches of ride height! CupKit dampers seem to me, not as firm as Konis at full firm. That may be why many perceive the Sports as firmer. Don't forget that adding weight with big wheels also causes a ride deterioration due to increased unsprung mass.
The neat part is that with the Konis set at 80% the car feels like it rolls less, but this is an illusion. Firm dampers yield less at turn-in, but by the middle of the turn, your roll amount isn't determined by the dampers. At full soft, turn-in feels more gradual, and the seat-of-the-pants impression would be there's more roll, but, as I said earlier, this is an illusion.
The ride comfort, or lack thereof, is governed largely by choice of damper.
Ride comfort and stiffness is SO subjective. Like politics and religion, one mans passion is another's poison.Comment
