    Stopleak

Would I be able to use this through the cooling system in my 325i?

There is a hilariously slow leak (yet annoying where I have to refill every month) coming from a gasket (that I built) on the throttle body.

I figure if I just throw some Stopleak in the reservoir and then fill coolant on top of it, the stuff will cycle through.

    OR

Will I have to unhook a hose to quickly dump it in? This would cause a mess since any disconnected hose = coolant everywhere.

    OR

    Is Stopleak teh bad?

    Best,
    Pete

a lot of peole I know use the bars leak, copper color one without problems. volvos, vw's, mb's and bmw's
I have used in in big block chevys and fords,, a few volvos and a few british cars, adn cars and often used to seal heater core leaks.

but not running any in my bmw right now
however, when I bought my bmw, that at the time was known to have a bad head gasket, wehn I drained the fluid, it was way obvious thta they had put in several bottles probabally to try to seal it

supposedly what I have been told, the copper color wone is less likely to plug any small passage and does not have a chemical reaction to the various metals in the engines

but of course the best thing is to fix the problem right

replace the 25 cent gasket on the throttle body. use new screws, which will cost you about $2, and get some new coolant, $7, with a 99 cent jug of distilled water from the grocery store. Spend $10 and fix it right instead of filling your engine with goo.

Any type of stop leak is a bad idea. While it might (temporarily) plug up the leak it will also gunk up the cooling system. If your leak is only at the throttle body, do a proper repair with the correct parts. And pressure test the cooling system to see if there are other leaks and fix as indicated.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

since you know where the leak is, and it's in a relatively easy spot to fix why not fix it right?

I had to replace my entire cooling system (Radiator, hoses, thermostat, waterpump) because PO used too much stop leak. just don't do it.

Welp, I guess laziness won't let me get away with this one. I guess it's also a good time to replace my throttle body gasket!

Anyway, thanks for the help, forum!

If you have to run it, that is the stuff to get. Interestingly, its factory fill in some older Cadillacs.
