Good question. Couldn't find an answer in the Bentleys at the end of Ch. 11 where driveline torque specs are listed. I have changed the gasket for one of these covers before. The cover is aluminum and the casing is steel so there's no need to wrench these bolts down really hard.....just snug enough so the seal seats properly. You could always place a small drop of medium grade thread-lock at the ends of the bolts to prevent them from vibrating loose.

    Just a thought.

In case this question comes up in the future, I torqued the bolts to 36 ft-lbs. Source: http://www.e30eta.com/ecdiff.htm. Seems a bit much to me, but so far so good.
