Do I have a chipped ecu?????

Well, just did a tune up, finished changing all front suspension parts on my new to me e30. and decided to go for a drive. I don't think I have a rev limiter. lol. got up to 7600 rpms before I let off realizing it wasn't stopping.

History of car. 1985 325e, it has a m20b25 in it that the owner didn't even know about. The tach is out of a later later I model. Is there a sensor or anything that could make the revs off?

Is there a way to tell if I crack open the ecu to see if there was a chip installed by the previous owner?

Want to make sure of what I have.

    Thanks for the help.

it could have the coding plug from the e, that would make the tach read wrong. you would have floated the valves long before 7600rpm.

If the cluster has been swapped, it could be one from a 318. The tach would then read high by a factor of 3/2.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
