hmmm... but could a check panel be mounted and utilized with the wires running in for the late model blank panel? (like just for the indicators it already has)???

having dealt with the connectors on the back of the check panel, I would say, its more a pain in the ass than its worth. You would have to splice in the full connector, and find what wires went to where (signal, power, etc) and even then, there is no guarantee that it would operate correctly. Remember, this panel drives lights on the instrument cluster, so it would be an involved job to get it to operate even in the limited capacity. it isnt just some lights, there is a full IC circuit board up there that runs things as well. WHat you may be able to do, is rig a dummy panel, using a face plate from a check panel, and some LED's driven off of your existing system. I used to have a faceplate that I had gutted around here somewhere, from a "hole filler" when the panel took a shit on me. Shouldnt be that hard to rig something like that, and panels are small enough to be smuggled out of most junkyards
