I've got a big problem. HELP!!

Well, I'm replacing my old head bolts (with now washers), with Metric Blue's with washers. And well, I have done 2 bolts. On the third, I was torquing from 25 to 55.... and SNAP. I imediately took the bolt out, and found about .5" of thread are missing from the bottom of the bolt. I was using oil half way up the thread when torquing. Not sure what to do. I have a bolt retriever, but these suckers are deep. Any suggestions? I really dont want this to happen to anymore bolts, as I only have one extra.

You will most likely need to pull the head off to reach the snapped off section with a extractor. Make sure you chase the threads with a tap next time. :?

...also make sure there is no oil in the bottom of the hole.

yes, there must have been alot of oil in the hole. oil doesnt compress... snap

what happened matt at the end? did you pull off the mssing part?

I did the same li 1.5 months ago, the same bolts, but I didn't have any problem, I only cleaned the hhole, dryed it and then I applied some thin oil in the thread and then torqed it twice, like 30 and then 60 If I remember well,

Hey,

I used the broken bolt to get the broken piece out, just applied pressure, and untwisted it. Worked like a champ. Then pu the rest in, and she fired right up. I'd have to say I was pretty lucky, thanks for the help guys.
