    My bmw just f---in died

i drove into mcdonalds, notice my cluster go dead again,a burning smell was coming out of it then i parked turned it off and ate. Came out turned the car on replaced the fuse before doing so and the cluster then the turn signal fuse and number 21 on my fuse box blew. Finally the car shut off. The car cranks but doesn't start up as well number 21 fuse keeps popping along with the 4 and 10 fuse. i checked for shorts along the wiring system. Where they happened usaually before there was one where the reverse wire was, then checked my glove box lights. Any suggestions on whats wrong there is gas and oil in the car it was driving just fine.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere. I bet that all of thoes fuses feed an electrical system in the same general area of the car. You said there was aburning smell. Where was it coming from exactly? I bet you have a short there and it seems big enough to start a fire if you don't fix it right.

came from my cluster and the fuse 21 once i put it in the fuse it pops the new fuse automatically
im thinking thats is the culprit.

The only thing common to fuse 4, 10 and 21 is Active Check Control. But a burning smell from the cluster and fuse 21 blowing could be related. Remove the cluster and see if that fuse still fails.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I would say either the Unloader Relay, Check Control, or the Instrument Cluster as these are the only common circuits with the 4 10 and 21 fuse

As i put a new fuse into 21 the fuse pops. Im guessing i should remove the cluster and try again. I check everything on 21 that can short from the glove box light to my radio and OBC and trunk light.

could it be the fuel pump relay and where is it located?

Those fusess blowing won't be the fuel system, but a failed fuel pump, relay or fuse would prevent the car from running. The fuel pump relay should be the middle of the three mounted near the left side shock tower in th engine bay. Note that the relay is contolled by the DME and only enabled when the DME sees timing reference data from a rotating engine. So if the CPS or DME have failed or if the DME isn't powering up the relay won't close.

Thanks J, im going to relay the message to the mechanic. I have an extra Bosch motronic computer. So basically test for the fuel pump and the cpu and relay.

ok the car starts but the cluster doesnt work. Fuse number 4 keeps popping. before this whole incident i didnt have a reverse light but the cluster worked. can it be the cluster is finally dead lol?

Any suggestions why the tailights/brake lights stay lit?

With the other electrical problems, it may be a short.

maybe the brake light switch is stuck closed.
